Various forms of virtual curfews including Internet shutdowns pose a threat to human rights around the world. They harm everyone: businesses, emergency services, journalism, human rights defenders, and demonstrators. They don’t help victims or restore order. Even worse, they’re increasing. We need to stop it now.
A virtual curfew happens when the authority impose any restrictions that hampers communications among the common mass. Virtual curfews also known as “internet shutdown” or “Internet Blackout” or “blackouts” or “kill switches” etc.
With the aim stopping the shutdowns Access Now has started a campaign called “KeepItOn”. Access Now has also explained why the internet restriction is a problem.
