Privacy in India in the Age of Big Data

Data and information have been collected, assembled and used throughout human history. But the advancement in digital technology has increased our capability to monitor, intercept, collect, obtain, analyse, use, preserve, retain, interfere in a person’s communications in the past, present, or future; and in other publicly and privately available data. The overall aims of this issue paper was to improve the understanding of common masses and help to initiate the public discourse around issues of privacy in the big data age. It was expected that the public discourse would potentially pave the way for developing the law in India to enable citizens to gain from big data, while limiting the potential violations and also ensuring the human rights.
